He had spent his entire 9-year career as a corner pack for the Baltimore Colts from there 1960 to 1968. He had played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners.

He was one of three cornerbacks selected for the NFL 1960s All-Decade Team. Despite having more career interceptions than all other cornerbacks on the team he is the only member from that group not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Bobby was born on 3 December 1937 in Dallas, Texas. He was raised in the nearby Garland, Texas, where he had played basketball baseball, and football at the Garland High School. He has earned Texas all-state football honors during his junior as well as senior year. As a senior, he has recorded 220 carries for 1,719 yards as well as 26 touchdowns while also making 10 interceptions as a defensive back.
Following his senior season he was selected to play in the 1956 Oil Bowl High School all-star game. His Texas all-star team soundly defeated the Oklahoma squad, 37-0. He was originally committed to playing college football at SMU before switching his commitment to the University of Oklahoma.

Bobby Boyd Professional Career
He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the 10th round, 119th overall selection of the 1960 NFL draft. He was also taken by the Los Angeles charges in the inaugural 1960 AFL draft. He has chosen to play with Baltimore in the NFL. As a professional he had also played primarily on defense as a cornerback and has also returned punts.

he retired as a player after the 1968 season to join the Baltimore Colts coaching staff. He was a member of the Colts coaching staff during the 1970 super Bowl V winning season.
In October 1981 he was asked by the Colts head coach Mike McCormack to return to the team as a defensive assistant. The Colts had started this season ad 1-6 and has given up to 229 points. McCormack has looked to Boyd to return around the faltering defense. He had a reminder on staff for the rest of the 1981 season. The Colts had finished the season 2-14 leading to McCormack’s firing.
