She had first landed a guest role in the year 1988 TV series Crime Story. In the following year, she was cast as Cynthia Patrice Bishop in Sex, Lies, and Videotape which was an independent drama film which is about a troubled guy who videotaped girls discussing their lives and their sexuality. Her performance in this movie has garnered positive reviews and has earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination as well as a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
