Neerabh Kumar Prasad, a 1987 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, became Andhra Pradesh’s chief secretary on Friday. He was appointed by the state government to replace KS Jawahar Reddy.

Reddy, a 1990 IAS officer, went on leave on Thursday after meeting Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who will become the next chief minister on June 12. Reddy turned 60 on June 2 and is set to retire at the end of this month.

The officer from the 1987 group was previously working as Andhra Pradesh’s special chief secretary, overseeing the environment, forest, science, and technology departments. Prasad thanked Chandrababu Naidu for giving him the chance and promised to work hard on the new government’s plans for development and welfare.

The government also moved three other top officers, Poonam Malakondaiah, R Muthyala Raju, and Narayan Bharat Gupta, who had important roles in the previous government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. They’ve been asked to report to the general administration department.

People who know about this said the state government decided not to let go of bureaucrats and top police officers who were brought to the state temporarily during the time of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership.

Several officers, including Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams executive officer A V Dharma Reddy, AP State Fibernet Limited managing director Madhusudhan Reddy, AP State Mineral Development Corporation MD V G Venkat Reddy, State Information Commissioner Tumma Vijay Kumar Reddy, AP State Beverages Corporation MD Vasudeva Reddy, State Industries Corporation MD Ch Rajeshwar Reddy, and Inspector General of Stamps and Registration Ramakrishna, have asked the government to let them go from their positions. They want to leave their roles.

Some officials have also asked to move to different states. For instance, SS Rawat, the special chief secretary of the finance department, and Y Srilakshmi, the special chief secretary of municipal administration, want to transfer to the Telangana cadre. They have requested to change their work location to another state.

However, the government said no to their requests and told them to stay in their current jobs. They must remain in their departments until Naidu becomes the chief minister and checks everything. The government also chose not to allow top officials to take time off while they investigate whether they did anything wrong during the previous government’s time.

On Thursday, the government said all advisors chosen by the previous government in different areas should leave right away. Some of them, like advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, national media advisor Devulapalli Amar, information advisor GVD Krishna Mohan, and principal advisor to CM Ajay Kallam, had already quit shortly after the YSRCP lost the elections on Tuesday.
